04:07 pm - Anticlimactic
I'm finally back from my vacation in the States. Dad and I are home safe. But one thing ruined the joy of my homecoming: I have chicken pox. (Yes, I never had it until now.)

Why now of all times?!? Well... Better than later in life. But it couldn't have come at a worse time! My former boss at Instituto Cervantes gave me work! Argh... Así es la vida

12:51 pm - Graduation in less than five hours...
I have so many things I want to write about, but I guess I'll just do that later.

Anyway, at 4:00 pm, we graduate. I don't know what/how to feel right now.

11:02 pm - La amistad
I wrote this on Allan's ([info]ethnicans) journal:

[...] I think I've wasted too much time pretending to be an introvert. Maybe I'm just imagining I am one because now I see that I want to get to know more people. But [...] time is running out.

But the funny thing is this: I haven't been reaching out to other people. Instead, I'm trying to get to know my friends better [...]. I "know" who [my friends are] but I think I don't know as much as I ought to as a friend. Know what I mean? It's what I feel about all my CSA friends. I want to get to know all you guys better. I'd rather strengthen a friendship that's already established than to have a million more mere acquaintances.

Why do my more serious thoughts end up on other people's journals?

*sigh* This new insight on friends is another symptom of Senioritis...

07:02 pm - "Umbreller" • Padre de Familia
I need to blog more often, get those little things out my system. I remember that that was one of the reasons I created this blog in the first place. Like sharing this following bit of nonsense:

"Umbreller"

I was humming Rihanna's "Umbrella" today, after stepping out of the shower. Then I stopped, realizing that there was something wrong. I couldn't identify it right away, though. Then it came to me... "together", "forever"... "umbrella"? Wait, that doesn't rhyme! The song is flawed!! So I attempted to correct it:

When the sun shines, we’ll shine together
Told you I'll be here forever
Said I'll always be a friend
Took an oath I'ma stick it out till the end
Now that it's raining more than ever
Know that we'll still have each other
You can stand under my umbreller
You can stand under my umbreller
(Eller eller eh eh eh)
Under my umbreller
(Eller eller eh eh eh)
Under my umbreller
(Eller eller eh eh eh)
Under my umbreller
(Eller eller eh eh eh eh eh eh)

But who wants to listen to crap like that, right? I then thought it prudent to apply the changes elsewhere, maintaining the song's title.

When the sun shines, we’ll shine togetha
Told you I'll be here foreva
Said I'll always be a friend
Took an oath I'ma stick it out till the end
Now that it's raining more than eva
Know that we'll still have each otha
You can stand under my umbrella
You can stand under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh)
Under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh)
Under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh)
Under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh eh eh eh)

Well, I guess that solves the problem. I can now hum the song in peace, without having to be nagged by my obsessions.

Family Guy

When "Family Guy" was all the rage, I admit that I didn't jump on the bandwagon. My initial impressions of the series were that it was simply another "Simpsons" clone and a watered-down version of "South Park". Turns out I was wrong.

My PSP came with a UMD of "Family Guy: The Freakin' Sweet Collection", a disc of five the creator's top pics from the series. I enjoyed all five! Apparently, "Family Guy" has a lot of wit! The cast is even more daring than Homer Simpson and his family, though not to the point of stupidity, unlike "South Park".

Stewie has to be one of my most favorite animated characters ever. I look forward to every line he says, hehe. It's amazing that he and Peter Griffin (the Family Guy himself) are voiced by Seth McFarlane, the series' creator, who also voices other characters.

I might actually get some DVD's of this show. Gosh, I really need to start watching TV again.

10:02 pm - ¡Feliz cumpleaños! • "Breaking Free", a year thence • A message
Happy birthday, RA-RA [info]ra912! Hope you had a good one! Gosh, we're all so old already!

***

It's been more than a year since the first High School Musical movie came out. I laugh at how profoundly I was affected by a seemingly shallow preteen movie. Thanks to it, I'm playing the piano now. It's something I've always wanted to do ever since I knew that music had a special place in my heart [ /queso].

Naturally, the first pop song that I intended to master was the accompaniment to "Breaking Free". Heck, I was even able to perform it live, in front of an audience, together with my blockmate Erika [info]akireslich. I never thought that would ever happen. But it did. It's amazing what inspiration can do. It can actually make dreams come true.

I can play "You Are the Music in Me" now. I don't have the sheet music so I just based my arrangement off of guitar chords and the actual song. Someone's going to sing it with me soon, too. *nudge*

I actually haven't seen the sequel yet. But I get the impression that it lacks the magic of the original. The first was raw, simple. This new one's all summery and party time. But I'll give it a chance and try to get around to watching it one of these days.

Anyway... The worldwide success of the movie prompted the translation of the main theme into many languages: Spanish, French, Italian, you name it. But I thought I'd just share this version. This is the Polish version and it, in my opinion, is the best of all the adaptations of "Breaking Free" there are out there. It gave me goosebumps. Both of the singers are incredibly talented. I really love how they worked the song, staying faithful to the original but giving it their own twist (those ad libs are awesome!).

So, yeah. I think it's great, despite the fact that I can't understand a word they're saying, hehe. Below's a link to the video on YouTube.

09:21 am - Longest Long Weekend Yet!
Classes were suspended yet again! Funny thing is, whenever they do suspend classes in advance, the rain just doesn't come, hehe. But the skies look ominous and are just about ready to let it pour. Go on and be done with it already.

Let's see... Classes were suspended since Wednesday, so we lost more than half the week. Then we have the weekend and Monday as a national holiday, already by itself a long weekend. Adding up the previous days lost to the suspension of classes, you get one of the longest long weekends ever! I feel my intelligence wasting away already, hehe.

Also affected by the suspension was our required immersion trip to a fisherfolk village near Calamba, Laguna. It just wasn't meant to be. I felt it. Heck, this whole week wasn't meant to be.

When we asked God to break the dry spell and bring the rains, He brought them all right. When it rains, it supertyphoons.

09:20 am - Back!
Our internet connection's finally back! And with it's return, the rains have come as well. Three typhoons are in store for us. Oh, well. As the famous saying goes, "Más vale tarde que nunca". When it rains, it does pour.

Speaking of returns, High School Musical has come back to infect us all! The soundtrack is already out and the movie is just around the corner. On first listen, I think the songs from the first movie were better. But the new ones will grow on me, I think.

Not having a DSL connection at home suxxors. Boo. PLDT, return my freedom to me!

I really can't wait for the PSP version of FFT. Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions is going to rock big time. What I'm looking forward to is the completely revised localization and the voice acting.

Delita's (in)famous (and somewhat awkward) line that goes "Tough. Blame yourself or God." is now "'Tis your birth and faith that wrong you, not I." Oh, yes!

Now... to buy a PSP, hehe.

09:21 pm - Tired • How're y'all?
Na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, yeah...
You are the music in me

Heh, High School Musical 2 isn't even out yet but the songs are already stuck in my head. It's brainwashing, I tell you. But it doesn't even have to try too hard, hehe.

Despite beginning on a positive note, I've been feeling rather glum lately. To cut to the chase, I feel like I'm just existing, not living; as if life's becoming more and more like drudgery. I go to school, I get out, the weekend comes, rinse, repeat, et voilà: you have my life. I'm sure a lot of you can relate to a certain extent. Life's become a routine so it doesn't feel like life anymore. It's like I'm a machine: I'm fed data for processing and I'm expected to process it and produce output that surpasses the input.

Years after hearing it, Stacie Orrico's song still rings in my head:

There's gotta be more to life
Than chasing down every temporary high
To satisfy me

*sigh* And, even though the house and the Ateneo are full of people, I still feel detached. I see some of you everyday even but it's as if we never even talked. Hard to explain. Just how are you guys doing these days?

02:45 pm - Write-up Help!
I can't believe my grad pic shoot's this Thursday already! Now I'm panicking, hehe. I haven't even decided on my creative pose yet. My blockmates tell me I should do a Spanish Don/Hacendero/Ilustrado look. It's a possibility, since I know some people I can borrow props from, hehe.

But... I'd like to ask your help. Apart from that, I need to make a write-up. But I'm kinda having a hard time. :p So... how do you see me? I might find out things about myself I hadn't realized before. So, yeah. Any help would be great. :D Write me a write-up and I'll mishmash it into one coherent whole.

(Gosh, this reminds me so much of my Fourth Year high school... Oh, the memories.)

08:18 pm - Hewlett Packard 5!
I watched Harry Potter and the Order and the Phoenix today (oh, and yes. I'm that OC with names). My blockmates were set to watch to watch it later tonight but I'm not comfortable with watching the last full show. Naturally, my Dad dismissed what was to him a ridiculous notion: that I go watch by myself. I ended up watching with my Mom. A mother and son date, hehe.

I picked today since it was a weekday. Who watches at lunchtime on a weekday, right? Perfect timing since my first class on Tuesdays and Thursdays start at 4:30. And as expected, I was able to get a ticket without having to wait it out in a queue. (There was some drama with me getting a ticket for 11:15 instead of 11:50. It was fortunately resolved quickly and without any fuss.)

Well, what can I say? It felt like the shortest out of all the ones that have already been adapted to film. It was a little choppy and, in retrospect, a little lacking. It's understandable that they had to chuck out a lot from the book but I think what was left behind left me wanting more. But that's not to say that I didn't like it. I liked it as a movie. The special effects were awesome as always, especially during the climax. I'd say it was almost as epic as Yoda's duel with Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious in Star Wars: Episode IV - Revenge of the Sith. Overall, it was a very dark movie. I must say that the movies are doing a good job at keeping up with the changes with the series itself. The movies are getting darker, parellel with the books they're based on.

I agree with my blockmate [info]kupo123. The movie got good castings for some characters like Luna Lovegood and Tonks, especially. I wanted a more, uh, rotund Umbridge, like the one in the illustrations in the book, but I think the one they casted did the character justice.

The movie gave me goose-bumps at one point actually. It wasn't because of the movie per se, but because I realized that the characters are getting older, that we're watching them grow before our very eyes and that we're growing with them! The first time I ever even heard of the name "Harry Potter" was in the year 2000. And what year is it now? How old will we be when ...Deathly Hallows becomes a movie?

So... the greatest effect on me was that it urged me to return to my bookworm days. I miss my fantasy novels. I miss my world of magic. I actually forgot that the last HP book was due this month! I haven't even reserved my own copy yet. I have to make it a point that, despite all my readings this semester, I will finish Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Do I recommend this movie? Of course I do. We all owe it to ourselves.

06:27 pm - *Sigh*
I promised I'd update my LJ after "Transformers" so... yeah, hehe. I've been thinking about a lot of things lately, but before they see a translation into the written language, I leave my journal with another promise.

I thought I'd do this instead, a meme from my friend RA [info]ra912:

Paranoia meme.
List (20) things you want to say to people but know you never will. Don't say who they are.

Tag? Just do the meme if you want to.

It says 20, but I only have the energy for 10 right now.

1. If there are a few people outside my family I'd trust with my life, you'd be one of the first people on that list. I think I trust you that much. But there are some things you will not hear from me just yet.

2. For some reason, I think we're silently competing with each other, trying to outdo each other. Someday, someone's going to give. I'll try my best not to be the one. But you're a good person; I know.

3. I'd like to get to know you more; I think you're a good, sensible person. You're not too up in the clouds but neither are you too pragmatic.

4. I think I'd trust my life with you, too. You're a one of a kind friend. We never fail to make a meeting memorable.

5. You... You're too high up there already. I fear I can no longer reach you where you are. I feel like you've created a distance between us. I'm sorry, but I think you've gotten so full of yourself already. Sure, given what you are, it's almost inevitable. But I had some hopes for you. But I guess you don't need people like us anymore.

6. You're just like person 5. Too busy to spend time with the common folk, eh?

7. You're on my list of most trusted friends, too. And I wouldn't blink about trusting you with my life as well. You've always been so honest with me. But I'm afraid there are some things that I cannot tell you personally just yet.

8. You, though... I'm not really sure about the lot of you, actually. I don't know if I can trust you or not. I know the lies behind the smiles... I've seen it with my own eyes. I'm afraid I'll always be a cynic when it comes to you all.

9. I was wrong about you and I'm glad I was. More than meets the eye. But I find it difficult to tell you things. You may already know why.

10. Yes... I knew it all along.

01:52 am - AISIS is in the air
...And it's now on the 'Net.

Because of the failure of the online enlistment process, AISIS (also known as the "Ateneo Infernal Sakit-sa-kaluluwa Information System") has been nothing but the butt of jokes of fourth year Ateneans everywhere. The collective anger and frustration resulted in the creation of a new blog aptly named AISISsucks, a repository of jokes, news articles and rants that share a common theme: AISIS sucks.

How very Pinoy.

04:19 pm - FINALLY!
YES! Finally! Now I don't need to deal with the horror that is online enlistment™ (copyright, AISIS)!

This year, someone came up with the bright idea of making enlistment a procedure that could be done away from school, in the comfort of our own homes. (Yes, I know, my friends over at Taft. We ain't got nothing on you in this regard.) But the notion, instead of having me jumping for joy, had me shaking my head in anticipation of frustration. Now I know I was right.

Even before enlistment day, the site would take ages to load. And when the day finally arrived, the site's load speeds slowed to a grinding halt. My being here in the US didn't have anything to do with it; my batchmates were all online complaining about the whole thing. Woe is us.

They could have at least upgraded the servers or upped the bandwidth. Heck, if the servers crashed during the days of controlled enlistment with randomly assigned numbers for all the students, for sure they'd crash when enlistment becomes free for all. But AISIS, the Ateneo Integrated Student Information System, may not be completely at fault. On the outside, this whole mess may seem like a product of their negligence. But anyone who could think would know that the whole system needed to be prepared for online enlistment. The poor chaps could be underfunded. *sigh*

But after going through the whole thing from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm (SF time), eating and watching TV in between loading times, I'm done!! As expected, I had to give up my original, stress-free schedule and forgo the recommended teachers since some people were lucky enough to get them all. But it's better than lining up at the real free for all brawl on June 7th. Who knows what will happen there, with all the tension and crab mentality. Don't even mention the crap I'd get for a schedule. *Sigh*
